Cheaters!

What makes you guys so special that you can just create your own line around an obstacle? Do you think the other 45 guys in the race were running up the stairs because they were not capable of riding through the tape and up the side? You can pretend to be ignorant, but there is no way you are that stupid.

In my opinion, nothing wrong with being creative in a cx race. The taping of the course left room to ride that edge. I know I wasn't capable of it--but those who were, all the power to them. Anticipating creativity is part of the challenge of setting up a cross course. I say no harm.

I'll cry foulf as well. It's all about intent, I don't believe the organizers ever intended on people riding up the sides.

There's no tape next to the bariers but that doesn't mean you can ride around them. Your supposed to go over or through obsticals.

Next year we'll have Mrs brandishing a loaded weapon on those stairs or the two cops with their German Shepherds.

Way to call them out Jimmer, I love it. Kruser should have accidentally smacked that guy with his bike.

i'd agree totally with you but if i do i'm afraid the Cat 6 Directeur Sportif will make me the first 6er ever to be charged dues (he was doin' it in the B's).

so yeah -- i agree with painman. it's about the intent.

I suggested on the mcf board that next year - they place haybales on the corners of the bottom of the staircases if that's their intent. They did leave a bit of a "ledge" that the skilled could ride - but then someone broke the tape and it was a free for all....

Haybales, huh boy? I'll bring my zippo lighter and let 'em burn baby burn.

I agree with ghost's opinion about creativity, but I think that creativity must follow the rules. Anybody can be creative and break the rules (i.e. ride off course for an unfair advantage). If the ledge had stairs on both sides, I'd buy the option of riding it. The shot of Fisher shows what happened if you slipped off the stair side of the ledge. What if you slipped off the grass side? You should have to dismount, right? What's to stop people from simply riding over/through the tape and on the grass? That is in fact what happened. Too easy to cheat in my opinion. Painman's statement of over or through obstacles, not around, applies here.

Dino is inside the tape.. not a cheater

who the f is dino? in every one of them pictures anyone riding their bike is cheating. The tape is obviously there to indicate that you run the steps, just cause the tape isn't exactly on the edge doesnt' mean you can ride it...it's apparent that there was to be no riding on the rail... good thing Bruce won't let me be chief ref, I'd dq every one of them mothers... what's the difference between doing that or taking dope? none, in my opinion...

Pretty grey area' if ya don't want them riding it, mark it that way and have the officials state the situation. I did it both ways and found that consitrating on the 3" of cement was slower than, proper form with dismount. Last year p. Ellis road up the stairs what, would you say about that?

Now I'm mad. I will position myself at those stairs to enforce the dismount next year. I'd even make Bjorn dismount and he's my favorite bike racer in the whole world except for when Mrs does the Dog on the tandem with me. I'm slow but I don't cheat.

If you can ride up those stairs, I think your awesome. To me, it's the same thing as bunny hopping a barrier.

If they wanted people to run the stairs they shoulda had a barrier just shy of the stairs.. look at this pic

obviously they gave a little too much room to prevent a ride up. I think the word "cheating" is a little extreme here. bunny hopping the curb and riding seems to be a fairly comperable option.

Not cheating unless you were on the outside of the tape in my opinion. If the promoter wanted to force a run-up they should have blocked it off better. Plus running in cycling shoes on concrete is way dumb. You think they could have found a better run up to avoid that. Also, mountain bikers have a totally different attitude about this stuff. Most mtb courses give you multiple options to ride lines, it's not cutting the course, it's picking the best line for you. I know Paul and Chris are good, fair bike racers and wouldn't do this if they thought they were cheating.

Thats correct those two are pro Mtb'ers, that stair case wasn't even a bumb in the road for them. Jimmer yer mad the same way I was at the track, actually mad at yer self for the lack of yer skills. LOL
Its the job(literally) of the Officials ta explain the rules and regulations of the Event, and or the promoters. I now cause one of them agrees with me.
Bunny hopping is a good lesson ta teach Jordo, plus it would make for some good Bloopers.
You've done good out there, keep evolving, do it for the Kids.

Jimmer Question of the Day;
What if we were hitt'n the stairs from the top?
a) get of and run down.
b) ride 'em with yer years of experince.

Just wounder'n cauae know i've got a great idea for State Champs....
...Barrier at the top of the stairs and then desending them, start practicing, Bunny Hop, raddle, raddle, zoom.

if you can ride that stuff, thats pretty cool. I dont think its cheating if its not taped off.
jay,
going down stairs sounds awesome. Lots of courses out here are filled with crap to pinch flat on so Ill have plenty of practice by the time state comes around.
