One of Jordan's biggest goals for this season was to qualify for the USA Cycling Junior 15/16 European Race Camp. Only 6 riders are selected to go to Belgium for 3 weeks of racing in August. Selection is based on performance at national level events, and testing results from the USA Cycling Development Camps. The competition for this camp is very tough, and Jordan is on the younger side of the group.
Jordan found out yesterday, that he is an alternate for the camp. While he is understandably disappointed, he knows he has another opportunity to go next year. There is also a slim chance he may still go, if a spot opens up. The trip is not cheap, at $4200 all in.
Instead, Jordan will apply to attend the regional USA Cycling Development Camp in Lacrosse, WI, held the 1st week in August.
Congratulations to the 6 riders who were selected for the Camp (4 or which are past or current Junior National Champions):
Michael Dessau - 2009 Junior 13/14 National Road Race & Time Trial Champion
Dean Haas
Colin Joyce - 2010 Junior 15/16 National Time Trial Champion
Jonathon Schilling - 2009 Junior 13/14 National Criterium Champion
Marcus Smith
Erik Volotzky - 2010 Junior 15/16 National Criterium Champion

Jimmer,
That cost is extremely overpriced, over 4000 dollars? What a joke! USA Cycling has their seat tube stuck up their asses. I’ve race with many U23 riders that they send here and most are worthless. Unless you’re donating money to USA Cycling (like 4 of those kids parents did in 09) Jordon has to kill these kids by hours in races if he wants to be picked.
The problem with USA Cycling is that it’s setup as an “elite” click. Why does it cost so much to come to Belgium for a USA Cycling Team rider? Racing here is almost free! It cost less than racing in the US by thousands. I pay less to race here for 3 months than 3 weeks in the Midwest. And I suck!
There is another way and it’s a lot better. All I had to do was buy a plane ticket! And my housing, food, little transportation is all taken care of for 3 months! In fact one of my friends here was given an allowance from his host family.
There are teams here who are willing to host or find host for kids. I have contacts here if Jordan OR you are interested email me. lallamike@hotmail.com You’ll have to work out the details for yourself but I can point you in the right direction.
Yeah… I don’t like USA Cycling. I just wish cycling in the US cost less.
Rant over.
Lalla
